The Fujinon 10x70 and 16x70 FMT-SX binoculars are two of the most highly regarded astronomy binoculars available, at any price. They use a unique optical design that makes for an exceptionally flat field of view, which translates to tight star images very close to the edge of the field of view.

These binoculars feature wide fields of view of 5.3º (10x70) and 4.1º (16x70), which makes them an excellent choice for sky sweeping. The 10x model features an unusually large 7mm exit pupil, which makes it best suited for observers with access to dark skies or the desire to observe larger nebulae, galaxies, and comets. The 16x model has enough extra magnification to pull in additional detail, and the smaller 4.38mm exit pupil is especially well-suited to those observing under slightly more light-polluted conditions.

The 10x70 model features ample eye relief for eyeglass wearers, while the 16x70 is a little tight for those who must wear glasses while observing. The extremely well made die-cast aluminum body is dry nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to prevent internal fogging. Each binocular is fully waterproof per the most stringing U.S. MIL specs. The FMT-SX models feature an attractive pebble-grain leatherette coating for a secure grip.

In addition to being baffled and blackened to prevent ghost images, every optical surface, including the high-index BaK4 prisms, are fully multi-coated. Fujinon makes use of a patented electron beam (EBC) coating process that allows exceptionally high light transmission of greater than 95% for the total system, which is one of the highest transmission numbers available in any binocular. This translates to exceptionally bright and high-contrast images. Both models feature optics remarkably free from chromatic aberration, astigmatism, and spherical aberration.
